Attendance

Attendance

Stanley Primary School seeks to ensure that all its pupils receive a full-time education which maximises opportunities for each pupil to realise his/her potential.  Each stage of a child’s education is of equal significance and it is no more acceptable to take Infant or Junior aged children out of school than it is to withdraw them at Secondary level.

The school strives to provide a welcoming, caring environment, whereby each member of the school community feels wanted and secure.

All school staff work with pupils and their families to ensure each pupil attends school regularly and punctually.

Absences

Please note that we have a duty to ensure that all absences from school are recorded as ‘Authorised’ or ‘Unauthorised’.

Absences can be authorised for illness, for religious observance in the religion to which the parents belong and other circumstances including family bereavement, at the discretion of the Headteacher.

  • The school day starts at
    •  8.45am/12.30pm  for nursery children
    •  8.50 for reception, KS1&KS2 children

Children arriving after the registers have been taken will be marked as late.

  • Registers close at 9.15am and any late arrivals after 9.15am are classified as an unauthorised absence.
  • The school must be informed by 9.00am on the first day of a child’s absence, giving details of the child’s name, class, reason for absence and expected date of return if known:
    • By telephoning 020 8977 4858
    • By emailing info@stanley.richmond,sch.uk
    • By letter if another parent or child can deliver it

Children should not return to school for a minimum of 48 hours after an episode of sickness or diarrhoea.

  • The school will contact parents where a reason for a child’s absence has not been notified.
  • The school should be kept informed if the absence continues into a second week.
  • Reasons for unexpected absences should be confirmed in writing on the child’s return.
  • All pre-planned absences, for example medical appointment, should be notified in writing or by email, in advance.
  • It is not possible for the school to authorise occasional visits and family days out.

Requests for any absence, other than illness or medical appointment, must be made by completing the school’s ‘Request for Authorised Absence Form’, prior to the requested absence.
