Stanley Primary School Governing Body

The governing body consists of 18 members who are appointed for a term of 4 years. The full governing body meets twice a term and parents are welcome to attend meetings as observers (by arrangement with the Chair of Governors) but may be asked to leave if confidential matters are being discussed.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

• Set the aims and objectives for the school
• Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
• Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
• Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
• Be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher ( a critical friend)

Much of governors’ work is done through sub-committees.

The PPC committee (Parents, Pupils and the Community) looks at how the school communicates with and responds to the needs of the pupils, parents and the wider community including reviewing parent questionnaires and monitoring club attendance as well as developing links through community projects.

The A&C (Achievement and Curriculum) committee monitors progress of all pupils’ achievement including the effectiveness of intervention groups and the creative curriculum programme.

The Premises committee manages the health and safety of the school through regular premises inspections and management of the maintenance programme.

The Inclusion committee focuses on the new ASC unit. 

The HR committee manages all staff related matters. 

The Finance committee oversees the school budget and discusses income and spending matters.
