Saturday Film Club Competition
The last film, ‘Eleanor's Secret’, showed characters that we recognise from children's classic storybooks, but in a different setting. To take part in the competition, you just need to do this: choose your favourite character from a book and think about what would happen if he or she had an adventure somewhere different, e.g. if Jack didn't climb a beanstalk but had to swim across an ocean; or Alice in Wonderland didn't fall down a rabbit hole but woke up below Big Ben in the middle of London.
To create a competition entry, please write a short paragraph or draw a picture of your answer (or both!), then put it in one of the envelopes handed out at Saturday's club or in an envelope marked 'Film Club Competition'. There are also spare envelopes available at the school office. Please make sure you return them to the school office by WEDNESDAY 2 APRIL 2014. There will be a film-related prize for the best entry, judged by the Headteacher and Film Club team. The winner will be announced at the next Film Club on 4 April 2014 and through the school newsletter/ website.
Forthcoming screenings
Friday 4 April 2014
'Mr Bean's Holiday' (Cert PG)
After- school special feature: 15.30
Based on Jacques Tati's classic French comedy 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday', this more commercial, but still hilarious, version features Mr Bean winning a trip to Cannes and having to navigate various mishaps and hurdles to get to his holiday destination, with the usual funny and potentially catastrophic chain of events created by Rowan Atkinson's accident-prone character.
Stanley Primary School's Saturday Film Club was set up several years ago by a group of parents with the aim of showing films that children may not have seen on the usual cinema circuit, as well as providing the opportunity to view some great film classics. Supported by the British Film Institute and its dedicated 'FILM CLUB' charity, this initiative is driven by parents who love children's cinema and give up their spare time to organise each film club session as part of the Friends of Stanley Primary (FOSP) activities.
Visit the official site for further details and news of what's happening at FILM CLUB http://www.filmclub.org/.
How to get involved
We're always keen to hear from children, parents and their families on the following issues:
- future film screenings - ideas, film suggestions
- feedback on Film Club - what do you like, dislike, what would make it better?
- offer to help and contribute: write a review of a film or come along and help on the day
Please contact Film Club coordinator, Louise Barfield at contactfosp@gmail.com or leave a message at the school office.
Please note that children in Year 3 up are permitted to watch the films unaccompanied, but that children from Year 2 down have to be accompanied by an adult. Thank you.
Please come along- all profits go straight back to the school!
