Stanley Primary School is justifiably proud of its reputation as one of the most successful sporting state primary schools in Britain, with National Champions and academy graduates each year. We are famed for our facilities, and along with our unique blend of coaching, education and outstanding pastoral care, we are able to offer an environment increasingly recognised by many link academies and clubs. The school enjoys direct relationships with professional clubs and a leading sports university.
Here's what three of the country's outstanding sportsmen have to say about us:
Linford Christie OBE (Former Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Games 100m champion):
“I attended a Sports event at Stanley Primary School and was really impressed by the range of Sports on offer to the pupils. The commitment given by the teachers reflected in the brilliant attitude the youngsters had to not only trying the sports on offer but also the discipline needed to be successful on and off the field of play”.
Iwan Thomas, MBE (European and Commonwealth 400m champion):
“I was very happy to present Stanley Primary School with the Primary School Sports Award in 2012. The day included the hosting of an Aviva Athletics Academy session, which saw the pupils take part and have fun in a range of Athletics disciplines. I found the children rightly proud of their schools’ sporting success””.
Scott Overall (2012 GB Olympic Marathon team):
"On Thursday I was at Stanley Primary School in Teddington doing an assembly. I was asked to come in and give a question and answer session, as I have previously worked there doing after school clubs with “Real Runners” (www.realrunners.co.uk). The reason for the assembly was because Stanley had just won the Sports Primary School of the year award. So basically, they are the best primary school in the country for sports, and who am I to argue with that?"
This is what the press says about us:
PE and Sport Magazine:
"The primary sports school of the year goes to Stanley Primary School, from Teddington in Middlesex, who capped a great year by becoming the first team ever to retain the national schools tag rugby title. Led by PE co-ordinator James Watson, the school also excelled in a variety of sports, winning borough competitions in netball, football, basketball and cross-country".
This is what Richmond School Sport Partnership says about us:
Michael Skinner (Competition Manager, Richmond School Sport Partnership):
"For someone in my position that is trying to work with schools to increase participation rates, raise the profile of the benefits of sport, and to establish pathways for elite performers, Stanley is a pleasure to work with as they exhibit all of these values. Stanley Primary School is a valuable element within our partnership and every single one of their pupils is benefiting from its commitment to school sport".
Maggie Morrell (Partnership Manager, Richmond School Sport Partnership):
"The children were also very lucky to have assemblies delivered by Scott Overall (GB marathon runner at the Olympics), Dick Fisher (St Mary's University), Craig Winrow (who competed at Atlanta Olympics and is now a coach) and 800m Olympic finalist Andrew Osagie.
This is on top of meeting Mo Farah and Linford Christie the previous year, again organised by James Watson who always manages to secure famous sports people for his pupils to meet! The PE coordinator has also run INSETs in the borough for other primary school PE coordinators and has run the borough cricket tournaments. Overall, this primary school and its PE coordinator James Watson deserve the accolade of primary school of the year as their commitment to school sport is outstanding and the opportunities and success there is amazing".
“I have been fortunate to work with the school for the past four years and they have broadened the sporting landscape available for its students by competing in many external events.”
This is what our parents say about us:
Steve Victory (Parent and Head of Sixth Form, Teddington School):
"As a parent, I am constantly amazed at the wide range of sporting opportunities made available to students of all ability levels at Stanley. The dedication of PE staff and the quality of coaching available at the school has allowed many students to develop their skills and engender a passion for sport, competition and teamwork that will last them a lifetime. I wouldn’t have my children at any other Primary school in the borough".
Kim Nunn (Parent):
"Stanley School has an amazing sports programme, that will enable every child to find something they like. The achievements have been fantastic, especially being 3 times winners of the National Champions at rugby, which is an amazing achievement in itself. This is down to the dedicated PE staff, and qualified outside coaches, that help bring out the best in all".
Our reputation has been gained through the collection of many national awards and championships titles over the years.
